A family prayer activity for the season of Advent

“A shoot shall come out from the stock of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots.” – Isaiah 11:1
The Jesse Tree is an Advent tradition which developed from Christian art in the Middle Ages. Every day in the season of Advent we hear the story of one of the people in the Bible who were ancestors of Jesus, and the prophets who told of his coming. Each day we add the symbol representing the Bible story to the Jesse Tree, to build the family tree of Jesus.
The Jesse Tree is very simple, which makes it perfect for families to do together at home:
- Light a candle
- Read the Bible story for the day
- Place the symbol on your Jesse Tree
- Finish with a prayer
